Progress Report: East

Day One
by Mike Greenberg

The East team is studying Salado Creek as it winds through predominantly residential neighborhoods. Issues include stormwater effects on the creek, neighborhood access to the parks along the creek, and security concerns. Numerous houses are within the 100-year flood plain.

At noon Saturday, the most fully developed concept concerned the nexus of J Street Park with its residential border. Currently, J Street dead-ends at the park's parking lot, and other neighborhood streets dead-end at the park perimeter. The team proposes a new street at the park's western edge, with a dozen new single-family lots fronting the street and facing the park. That street would enable development of yet more residential lots along a greenway linking the park with a nearby Episcopal church.
