Medina Charrette

Observations

The site itself is situated in the heart of far southwest Bexar County near the Mitchell Lake Wetlands Area, just a few miles from the Mission Espada. This section of the Medina River has about the same proximity to the center of San Antonio as does the Salado Creek to the north. Yet, the level of development is much different. Salado Creek is almost entirely encompassed by urban and suburban infrastructure. The Medina river is still entirely rural.

Typical upland
Typical upland, deep fertile soil / grasses / scattered trees

The site is closer to downtown than both the Government Canyon Natural Area to the northwest and Friedrich Park to north. There are currently no public parks or natural recreation areas in this part of the county.
