Stakeholder Needs

San Antonio Water System - SAWS

  • Realistic options that recognize SAWS obligation to it's rate payer and bond holders
  • Long term responsibilities to the Historic and Archaeological sites/structures/artifacts (per original program agreements)
  • Insure that future land uses are compatible with the physical and cultural environment

Former Property Owners

  • Want land back (right of first refusal)
  • Want neighbors back (i.e. former use of property)
  • Preserve river bottom corridor - water quality, quantity)
  • Return property to tax base
  • No land profits by outsiders
  • No degradation of air, water, and productive use of land
  • Local Management of historic and archeological resources
  • Broad public use of any public land
  • Preserve and enhance wildlife

Area Residents

  • Do not adversely impact quality of life (peace and privacy)
  • Properly police all public use (People and all their impacts)
  • Properly serve any increases in density
  • Dispose of Property ASAP
  • See needs of former property owners

Southside Community

  • Enhance overall perspective of Southside by everyone
  • Public ownership benefits the Southside (e.g. sports, Boy Scouts, open space)
  • Enhance Southside quality of life
  • Increase appreciation of natural and cultural resources located on the Southside
  • Do onsite interpretation of resources
  • Improve the watershed
  • Benefit the Southside economy
  • Use property for education and research

San Antonio Community Overall

  • Increase parks and open space and keep in their natural state
  • Protect water quality and all natural resources
  • Keep river corridor intact rather than fragmented
  • Use local management to enhance appreciation of National natural and cultural resources
  • Use cooperative management and oversight of the property
  • Create and urban "No-Dumping Zone"
  • Follow through with state and national designation of historic and archeological assets.
  • "A healthy Southside, benefits all San Antonio"
  • Use the site a model to educate people about goal oriented management of resources (Rural/Urban Context)
  • Sustainable agriculture and sustainability in general
  • Preserve and enhance appreciation of native American culture
  • Restore damaged Areas of site
  • Use Dam site restoration money for archeological site research
  • Use the site to resolve conflicts between urban and rural values
  • Make the river corridor part of a regional natural preserve system
