Texas grew out of the sea

Long ago, the waters of ancient seas periodically covered this place and laid the foundations for the physical form of today's Texas.  With the retreat of the last shallow inland sea and the definition of the present

coastline, the land surface was gradually covered by vegetation which has attracted and supported wildlife and man for thousands of years.

But always it was WATER, falling upon and flowing over, into and out of the land, which determined the unique environment of what was to become San Antonio.
