1) IMAGINE what a day without violence would look like in your life. Tell a special friend your dream and ask them to share theirs. 2) PLAN together what you would like to do to make this dream into a reality. Share with a family member, friend, neighbor, co-worker, teacher, faith or scout leader - someone you trust - who will help get your dream into action. 3) LEARN AND PRACTICE some creative new ways to bring about more peace in your lives. Watch a movie or read about a peace hero or heroine and see how they did it. You can get some ideas from www.salsa.net/peace. 4) SELECT a specific day, week or month and INVITE everyone who is willing to focus on imagining peace. Try to include someone you know and some you don’t, someone older and someone younger to help picture the peaces. 5) ORGANIZE a Picture the Peaces Contest for your neighborhood, class, team, workplace, scout troop, place of worship -- ANYWHERE! Open up and talk to others about creating a more exciting, peaceful world beginning in the year 2000, the International year of Education for the Decade of the Culture of Peace and Nonviolence. 6) CREATE some fantastic fliers to hand out and invite others into your very own Picture the Peaces event. There is a sample flier included in this kit that you can use, or create one of your own. Take every opportunity to talk it into being! 7) FIND THE BEST place to view all of your collected expressions of peace, and invite others to come “catch the vision.” This could be a classroom, library, place of worship, workplace lobby, recreation center, meeting hall, police station, park, theater, grocery store - ANYWHERE! 8) CELEBRATE with a Peace Party to honor all those who participated in Picture the Peaces. Sing songs of peace, play games, tell stories of peacemakers, laugh and break bread together. 9) TAKE PICTURES of you and your event and send some to: peaceCENTER, P.O. Box 36, San Antonio, Texas 78291. If you are able to digitize images, you can e-mail them to pleas@salsa.net. 10) BRAINSTORM with your fellow peacemakers about ways that you can picture peace every day in every part of your lives. BUT IT NEEDS TO HAPPEN EVERYWHERE
