Viewpoints on Nonviolence
March 10-12

Walter Wink PhotoWalter Wink, an internationally known author, lecturer and nonviolence workshop leader who teaches at Auburn Theological Seminary in New York, will speak about his views on nonviolence at First Presbyterian Church Friday-Sunday, March 10-12.

Wink's subject, "Jesus Against Domination," puts forward the opinion that the most potent religion in America is not Christianity, but the belief in the redemptive power of violence. The Gospel, says Wink, has a powerful and almost untried answer to this "religion of redemptive violence," and that "Jesus' message calls for an end to the domination of some by others by means of violence. And his teaching contains surprisingly practical ways to bring it about."

On Friday evening at 7:00 p.m., Wink will talk about the myth of redemptive violence. On Saturday he will lead a morning session from 9:30 a.m.-noon with a discussion on Jesus against domination. and an afternoon session from 1:00-3:00 p.m. about nonviolence for the violent. Finally, on Sunday, Wink will teach a special Sunday School class.
